The Faculty of Social Sciences was created on September 7, 1988. It integrates, from there, the careers of Social Work, Sociology, Political Science, Labor Relations and Communication Sciences. Throughout its more than 20 years, Social became one of the faculties with the highest student enrollment, reaching 25,000 students, nearly 2,000 teachers and more than 300 university workers, in its two locations. The Faculty has, in turn, more than 2,000 postgraduate students studying their five masters, Doctorate in Social Sciences and advanced courses.
In terms of research, for the number of accredited projects and scholarships, it is the fourth in capacity within the UBA and has two well-known research institutes – the Gino Germani and the Research Institute of Latin America and the Caribbean-, in addition to the Center for Studies and Research in Labor Relations (CEIRET), Center for Audiovisual Production and Research (CEPIA), Center for Public Opinion and Social Studies (COPES), the Center for Studies in Citizenship, State and Political Affairs of the Faculty of Sciences Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (CEAP), the Center for City Studies (CEC) and the Laboratory for Occupational Analysis (LAO). It has two regular publications and a set of projects and activities of extension and active relationship with the community, among which the Strengthening Program of Social and Community Organizations stands out.

Vision:
The FAUBA’s vision is to lead the generation, circulation, distribution and application of agronomic knowledge (scientific, technological and technical) in the own space that occurs in the interaction between the social system and the natural system, assuming sustainability and principles ethical as driving axes of their actions.
Missions:
To train qualified and flexible human resources with a proactive attitude towards the dynamics of agricultural-based productive sectors, assuming the values of equity, solidarity and respect for the environment.
Articulate teaching, research, extension, transfer and services to offer an academic and professional offer consistent with the national and international reality through undergraduate, postgraduate (specializations, masters and doctorates) and technical courses.
Offer flexible, open curricular proposals, supported by an interactive and dynamic conception of teaching and learning processes.
Generate scientific, technological and technical knowledge specific to the agronomic area and integrate them into a systemic vision.
Provide extension and transfer services to the public and private sectors.
Encourage the linking of graduates with the faculty to permanently integrate their vision, missions and objectives.
Design and implement permanent mechanisms for identification of demands and social changes that feed the update of the curricula, define lines of research and extension modalities.
Partnering with the external environment to establish a continuous interaction of mutual enrichment

La Universidad Católica Redemptoris Máter (UNICA), es una fundación civil, sin fines de lucro y de duración indefinida, que se rige de acuerdo con las leyes de la República de Nicaragua. Nace bajo el amparo de María Auxiliadora y es erigida por su presidente fundador, su eminencia reverendísima Cardenal Miguel Obando Bravo.
Nuestra identidad institucional deriva de su naturaleza cristiana que la singulariza y distingue de otras instituciones de estudios superiores por la impronta de la formación humanística como eje transversal de los planes curriculares. Como universidad cumple una función social en el campo educativo y contribuye al desarrollo de Nicaragua, mediante la formación de profesionales competitivos.
Actualmente funciona con siete Facultades: Humanidades, Ingeniería y Arquitectura, Ciencias Económicas y Administrativas, Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales, Arte, Diseño y Comunicación, Ciencias Médicas y Odontología. La Universidad tiene más 25 años de estar formando profesionales de forma integral que responden a los retos de la situación socioeconómica y cultural del país.

Somos una institución de educación superior de inspiración católica, cuyo principio fundacional es formar profesionales integrales, líderes y emprendedores, con excelencia académica y humanística, capaces de dar soluciones pertinentes a los retos que plantea Nicaragua en el contexto mundial actual.
