DAGON UNIVERSITY

Dagon University (DU), a national university under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Education, was established in 1993 and it has now a capacity for sixty thousands students. It is an Arts and Sciences University and situated 20 km north from Yangon City Center. The University offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in common liberal arts and sciences disciplines.

PAÑÑASASTRA UNIVERSITY OF CAMBODIA

ROYAL UNIVERSITY OF PHNOM PENH

The Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) is Cambodia’s oldest and one of the largest public universities. It hosts more than 12,000 scholarship and full-fee paying students, across a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It is unique in Cambodia for offering specialist degrees in fields including the sciences, humanities and social sciences, as well as professional degrees in fields such as information technology, electronics, psychology, social work, and tourism. RUPP also provides Cambodia’s foremost degree-level language programs through the Institute of Foreign Languages. Due to its many achievements, RUPP has full membership of the ASEAN University Network (AUN).

RUPP has over 450 full-time staff. All of its 335 academic staff members hold tertiary qualifications, including 15 PhDs and 280 Masters degrees. They are supported by over 120 administrative and maintenance staff. In addition, the university maintains links with Cambodian and international NGOs, local and international universities and government ministries. As a result, various international and non-government organizations and government offices regularly contribute adjunct faculty members to help expand RUPP’s capacity.

RUPP is located on three spacious campuses. The main campus lies roughly five kilometers from the center of Phnom Penh. Adjoining the main campus is the Institute of Foreign Languages, which boasts peaceful landscaping features alongside its modern architecture. Roughly one kilometer further from town lies RUPP Campus II, in which the departments of History, Sociology and Philosophy reside.

INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY OF CAMBODIA

Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) is a Cambodian Higher Education Institution which was founded in 1964 and supported by cooperation between the Cambodia and the former Soviet Union. More than 10000 executive members have been graduated from ITC. They are currently working intensely on the economic and social infrastructure development of Cambodia.

n the current context of globalization and fast transformations of new technologies ITC’s main concerns are to play an efficient role in the Cambodian society and to be at the cutting edge of development to improve our educational system.

Our goal is to provide students with a high quality education in the fields of engineering sciences and technologies. Students are provided with technical know-how and skills of analysis which allow integration and evolution in the labor market. To achieve this, the academic and international scientific research requires development.

Besides our academic activities, ITC contributes to maintain sustainable development and decrease the inequalities within our society through its internal functioning and opening-up to foreign countries and the way their students get admitted.

ASIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The Asian Institute of Technology promotes technological change and sustainable development in the Asian-Pacific region through higher education, research and outreach. Established in Bangkok in 1959, AIT has become a leading regional postgraduate institution and is actively working with public and private sector partners throughout the region and with some of the top universities in the world.

Recognized for its multinational, multicultural ethos, the Institute operates as a self-contained international community at its campus located 40km (25 miles) north of downtown Bangkok, Thailand.

Determination Statement: “Wisdom of the Land”
To appreciate the meaning of Mahidol University’s new determination statement, “Wisdom of the Land” it is first necessary to take into consideration two key words involved: mahidol, the university’s name, and paññā, or the Buddhist conception of wisdom.
The meaning of mahidol :
The word mahidol is derived from the Pali, and also Sanskrit, mahī “land” + tala “ground, level.” Mahītala can thus be translated as “the ground of the earth.” Other words in Thai with the same morphological structure and meaning are phasuthadol, phuwadol and methanidol (derived respectively from vasudhā + tala, bhuva + tala and medanī + tala. This whole set of words, which can be found in the 1999 edition of the Royal Institute’s Thai Dictionary, can all be translated as “the ground of the earth; the surface of the earth.” [more details..]
